Getting there and around

The most efficient way to visit the island is by air. On the other hand, if you want to bring your own vehicle you can reach the island by ferry from Peiraeus port. Getting around is easier if you rent a car, especially a small with automatic transmission. You can find free and paid parking around the island. For example, in Oia, you will need to pay a parking fee, 5Euros for 5hrs.

Eating out

If a value for money is what you are after, choose your dinner away from the touristic sites. For example, “To psaraki” at “Blyhada” beach is a very good option and you do not need a booking if you go early in the evening. Having a drink at “Irene’s cafe” in Fira is also a good choice but prepare to pay a bit more than usual for a drink or cake. The view comes with a price.

Accommodation

Prepare to pay more than you are used to for a decent stay unless you are backpacking or you know someone who owns property on the island. Of course, prices vary based on the season. Check for the low and high season prices if you are on a budget.

Fun facts

Most beaches have black sand and stones due to the volcanic past activity of the island. Most important, from 19:30 to 21:00 find a nice spot to observe the sunset. Choose either Oia or Caldera and enjoy your holiday :)
